No scheduled Batam–Singapore flight

None of the sources used in this guide lists a scheduled flight between Batam and Singapore. Batam’s tourism office says the city still relies on sea access as the main entry for foreign tourists, especially from Singapore and Malaysia. (Batam tourism office)

For Singapore visitors, that makes the ferry the practical link for Batam travel. Our Singapore to Batam Ferry Guide covers terminals, fares and routes. If you are also weighing Johor, note that the confirmed air route below runs between Kuala Lumpur and Batam rather than Johor; check ferry operators for any Batam–Johor sailing details.

Kuala Lumpur–Batam: the confirmed direct flight

AirAsia Malaysia (flight code AK) launched a direct Kuala Lumpur–Batam route. AirAsia announced it on 19 January 2026, and the Batam tourism office reported services would run daily from 13 March 2026. The same page identifies the airports as Hang Nadim International Airport, Batam (BTH) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). AirAsia also said the new service built on a Malaysia–Indonesia network that carried nearly three million guests in 2025. (AirAsia) (Batam tourism office)

Batam’s tourism office reported about 1.6 million foreign tourist visits in 2025, above its 1.5 million target, with a target of 1.75 million in 2026. It also presented the new route as a way to make the destination more competitive for travellers, particularly from Malaysia.

Flight time and published schedule

According to the Batam tourism office, the flight takes about 1 hour 10 minutes. The published local-time schedule is AK472 from Kuala Lumpur to Batam departing 08:05 and arriving 08:15, and AK471 from Batam to Kuala Lumpur departing 08:45 and arriving 10:55. The same source adds that passengers from Batam can use Kuala Lumpur as a connection point for destinations such as Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Almaty and Istanbul via AirAsia’s fly-thru service.

Frequency and other airlines

AirAsia’s launch material said the service would begin with daily flights. A Google Flights snapshot for Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Batam (BTH) lists AirAsia four times a week (Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and Batik Air every day, plus connecting services by Citilink, Lion and Super Air Jet. Frequencies shown by a search engine can change with season and booking demand, so confirm the carrier’s own timetable before you rely on it. (Google Flights)

Fares announced at launch and what they mean now

AirAsia’s January 2026 announcement listed promotional fares from RM199 all-in one way from Kuala Lumpur to Batam and IDR899,000 all-in one way from Batam to Kuala Lumpur, including passenger service charges, regulatory service charges, fuel surcharges and other applicable fees. Those fares were available for booking until 1 February 2026 for travel between 13 March 2026 and 24 October 2026, exclusively on the AirAsia MOVE app and airasia.com.

The Google Flights snapshot used here showed typical non-stop prices of about MDL 1,900–2,800 for AirAsia and MDL 2,200–3,550 for Batik Air, plus connecting options with higher typical totals. That is market snapshot data rather than a fare promise.

Why this route matters to a Singapore-based traveller

The practical comparison is straightforward. The confirmed air service connects Batam with Kuala Lumpur and can suit travellers starting in Malaysia or using Kuala Lumpur as a hub. For Singapore-based travel to Batam, the sources here point to the ferry rather than a direct flight. If your plans involve Johor, Singapore and Batam together, separate the comparison: the flight is KLIA–BTH, while the ferry guide covers Singapore–Batam and operators handle any Johor sailings.

How to plan without relying on guesswork

  1. Choose your destination first. If you need Kuala Lumpur or a Kuala Lumpur connection, compare the KUL–BTH route with your full itinerary; if you only need Batam from Singapore, start with the ferry rather than the air route.
  2. Check the air service against two sources. Use the Batam tourism office’s reported schedule of AK472 on the Kuala Lumpur–Batam leg and AK471 on the Batam–Kuala Lumpur leg, daily and about 1 hour 10 minutes, then confirm with AirAsia because the Google snapshot shows different frequencies.
  3. Check fares and dates with the airline. The launch promotion had a fixed booking period and a fixed travel period, and those dates should not be assumed to remain live.
  4. Compare sea options separately. Our Singapore to Batam Ferry Guide covers Singapore–Batam services, while any Batam–Johor details need to come from ferry operators.
  5. Check administration outside this guide. Visa on arrival, arrival-card steps and airport transfers are not covered here; use our Batam Visa on Arrival and e-VOA Guide and All Indonesia Arrival Card for Batam: Ferry Travel Guide where relevant.

What these sources do not settle

The sources used here do not state current air fares, airport transfer options, ferry durations, visa rules, baggage rules or passenger charges beyond the fee components named in AirAsia’s promotional note. If any of those details affects your trip, confirm them with the airline, the airport or the ferry operator directly.
