Sindo Ferry’s own page states a 10 kg hand-carry allowance with maximum dimensions of 55 × 40 × 20 cm; 20 kg free checked baggage per boarding pass, not transferable or combinable; S$1 per kg excess up to 40 kg per passenger; a 30 kg maximum per check-in item; an S$10 odd-size fee per item up to 20 kg for surfboards, wakeboards, bicycles, items over 1.5 m long, items over 100 × 60 × 30 cm and items that pose a safety hazard if hand-carried; check-in at terminal level 2 at least 45 minutes before departure; and counter closure 30 minutes before departure. From Batam Harbour Bay, it states 20 kg (up to two pieces), excess at Rp. 15,000 per kg, a Rp. 50,000 charge per bicycle, and counters open 90 minutes and close 30 minutes before departure. (Horizon Fast Ferry)

Baggage trap: airline allowances do not carry over to ferries

Many travellers pack to international airline allowances of 25–30 kg or more per bag. On ferries departing Singapore, the checked allowance is 20 kg per boarding pass, it is not transferable, and it cannot be combined with another boarding pass. Excess baggage is charged S$1 per kg or part thereof above the 20 kg allowance, up to 40 kg per passenger, and no single check-in item may exceed 30 kg. A 25 kg airline suitcase therefore has 5 kg of excess and costs S$5 extra. A 32 kg suitcase exceeds the 30 kg maximum for one item and must be repacked before check-in. Check-in timing

Sindo Ferry states baggage must be checked in at the terminal (level 2) at least 45 minutes before departure and that the counter closes 30 minutes before departure. Horizon Fast Ferry states counters open 60 minutes and close 20 minutes before departure from Singapore Cruise Centre, and open 90 minutes and close 30 minutes before departure from Batam Harbour Bay. 1. Weigh your bag and compare it with your operator’s published allowance and cut-off.
2. Keep hand-carry within 10 kg and 55 × 40 × 20 cm.
3. Check in all baggage by your operator’s cut-off time.
4. Repack any single item over 30 kg before check-in.
5. Pay excess charges at the counter, if any.

Odd-size items

Odd-size items such as surfboards, wakeboards, bicycles, items over 1.5 m long, items over 100 × 60 × 30 cm and items that pose a safety hazard if hand-carried are charged separately.
